     MartensiticTransformations are among the most studied phase transformations in the solidstate and are diffusionless, lattice distortive shear dominant transformationsoccurring by nucleation and growth. The lectures will address the fundamentalsof martensitic transformations and cover mainly martensiteformation in ferrous alloys (steels). The following topics will be covered:

-    Phenomenological theory of martensitecrystallography (PCMT)

-    Morphological appearance of martensite

-    Thermodynamics of martensite formation

-    Kinetics of martensite formation

-    Athermal vs. isothermal martensite

-    Martensite formation during cryogenictreatment
